The TVX2014 Grand Challenge Competition encourages leading researchers and innovators from both industry and academia to propose solutions to a set of technical challenges which are highly relevant to the future of interactive television and online video. The competition comprises challenges set by three organisations, the BBC, BT and the FIcontent project. The FIcontent project is sponsoring the competition as a whole.
- The Competition is open to anyone, however members/employees of the BBC, BT and the FIcontent project may not submit solutions to the challenge set by their own organisation.
- It is sufficient to submit one solution to one challenge only. However, anyone may submit more than one solution to more than one challenge.
- A solution to a challenge must include the following:
- A short paper (4 pages or less) describing your solution. The paper must be presented in the TVX Proceedings Format.
- If selected as a winner or runner-up, a 15-minute presentation must also be prepared and delivered in a dedicated session at the conference. The date and time of this presentation will be determined at a later date when the detailed conference programme is published.
- Entrants are also encouraged to submit a short video presentation of their solution.
- All submissions must be made online using the TVX2014 PCS Submission System, details of which are provided on the TVX2014 website.
- All submissions must be made by 23:59 CET on Wednesday 30th April 2014, or at a later date if advised by the conference organisers.
- Prizes are available for each challenge as follows
- For the BBC and BT challenges, one winner and one runner-up
- For the FIcontent challenge, one winner and two runners-up
- Prizes consist of the following:
- A cash prize, as advertised on the TVX2014 website.
- A grant for reasonable travel and accommodation expenses to attend TVX2014 in June.
- The opportunity to meet and review the challenge solution with key personnel from the organisation which set the challenge.
- The opportunity to present or demonstrate the challenge solution during a high profile session at the TVX2014 Conference.
- Cash prizes will be awarded as cash only, in the form of a personal cheque or bank transfer (at the discretion of the organisers).
- Cash prizes will be paid to the first person named on short paper describing the solution. Where multiple entrants or an organisation submit a joint solution, it is the responsibility of the first person named on the short paper to agree on how the prize will be distributed.
- Solutions will be judged by a panel of experts which includes representatives of the organisation which set the challenge. Prizes will be awarded based on their quality and how well they meet the challenge specification presented on the TVX2014 website. The judging panel reserves the right not to award all the prizes if insufficient entries meet the requirements of the challenges.
- Winning solutions will be published in the online proceedings of the TVX2014 Conference.
- Winning entrants may be required to participate in publicity events during the TVX2014 Conference and acknowledge their consent to take part in publicity and for their name/photo to be published.
- By entering the Competition, entrants agree to be bound by these terms and that the decision of the conference organisers is final and binding in all matters relating to this Competition.
- The conference organisers reserve the right to alter, amend or foreclose this Competition without prior notice in the event that unforeseen circumstances make this unavoidable.
